Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the number of public and private media till December 2019 in the country is 3, 165. Of these, the number of government print media is one.

‘Dainik Barta’ is the only government newspaper published from Rajshahi, run by a board of trustees.

On Monday, replying to a tabled question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Shamsul Haque Tuku in the House with Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The information minister said, besides there are 4 government TV channels. These are BTV, BTV World,  Sangsad Bangladesh Television and BTV Chattogram center. In addition, there are 30 private TV channels. Bangladesh Betar has been conducting radio broadcasting programs from 14 regional centers across the country, he added.

Responding to another question of Begum Nasrin Jahan Ratna of Jatiya Party, the information minister said that there were 35 daily, and a weekly and 2 monthly newspapers published from Barisal district.
