The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has lodged a case against 11 people including Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB)'s Chief Engineer Chowdhury Nazmul Alam for misappropriating about Tk 34.42 crore from a project.

Confirming the information, Deputy Director of the ACC's integrated district office in Habiganj Kamruzzaman said that ACC Deputy Assistant Director Shahidur Rahman filed the case with the commission's integrated district office in Habiganj on Wednesday.

The 10 other accused are - Sigma Engineers Limited Managing Director Syed Md Kamal, Chairman Engineer Syed Arshed Reza and General Manager Engineer Abdus Salam; BWDB's Superintendent Engineer SM Shahidul Islam, Executive Engineer Anisur Rahman, Superintendent Engineer Abu Taleb, Superintendent Engineer M Golam Sarwar, Executive Engineer Mohammad Abbas Ali, Superintendent Engineer Abdul Basit and Executive Engineer Ruhul Amin.

According to the case statement, the accused misappropriated Tk34.42 crore by buying eight pumps at a higher price than the actual price for Kashimpur Pump House Rehabilitation under Manu River Irrigation Project.

An investigation into the allegations was launched in 2019.

The investigation found the actual value of the eight pumps at Tk 20.41 crore. However, the contractor has procured Tk 54.83 crore from the government as a bill.
