The BGB has recovered 1.5 kg crystal meth ice, worth Tk 7.5 crore, at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. A drug dealer was detained at the time.
The incident took place in the Godar Beel area of Teknaf Sadar UP on Tuesday night.
The detainee was identified as Md. Abdul Majid, son of Hossain Ali of that area.
Confirming the matter on Wednesday afternoon at a press briefing, 2 BGB captain Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan said on a tip-off, a special patrol team of BGB’s Teknaf Battalion Sadar took position on the side of the main road adjacent to Godar Bill Bazar. At that time, when the team challenged some suspects roaming there for a long time, they quickly tried to flee on a motorcycle.
Lieutenant Colonel Faisal said a youth got off his motorcycle and entered a house in the area after being chased by a BGB patrol team. The BGB patrol team searched the house and arrested the youth. Crystal meth ice weighing 1.5 kg, worth Tk 7.50 crore, was later found in two packets from his motorcycle.
He added that the recovered crystal meth ice has been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station and a case has been filed against the arrested youth.
Major Rubaiyat Kabir, Deputy Commander of 2 BGB Battalion, Major M Muhtasim Billal Shakil, Operations Officer were present at the press conference.
