Under the proposed project, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has proposed to set a total of Tk 4,314,39,17,000 crore for the purchase and storage of the Covid-19 vaccine.
It will cost Tk 3,030 crore by June 2021 to buy the vaccine under the project. The rest of the money will be spent in phases.
The project will be presented for final approval at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the DGHS has informed the Planning Commission that there is a possibility of getting the vaccine between February-December this year.
According to sources, such an initiative will be taken under the first revised project of Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness proposed for implementation through the DGHS under the Health Services Division.
About buying vaccines, Project Director Dr. Mohammad Azizur Rahman Siddiqui said Tk 4,314 crore is being set for purchase, transportation and storage of vaccines under the project.
The project was approved on 18 April 2020 in the wake of the World Bank’s announcement of an emergency loan to tackle Covid-19. At that time, the project was considered very urgent and an initiative was taken to get the approval quickly.
