The Bangladesh National Cricket Team is not on the field for a long time due to the pandemic coronavirus situation in the country. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was thinking of returning to cricket with a tour of Sri Lanka. However, the tour is halting due to the virus guidelines. Meanwhile, batting coach Craig McMillan is not coming to the team – it is old news. Now Tigers’ spin coach Daniel Vettori has been added to the list.
The Kiwi star quit his job before joining, citing emotional trauma caused by his father’s death. He was scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
“Daniel Vettori will not return until the national team’s tour of Sri Lanka was confirmed,” said Akram Khan, chief of the Cricket Operations Committee.
The BCB has hired Vettori on a contract to pay $2500 per day for 100 working days a year.
BCB officials think that there is no point in spending “extra dollars” just by bringing him if he doesn’t tour Sri Lanka now.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are preparing for the tour which may be deferred for five days instead of September 27, says BCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
“We have been preparing for September 27, however, tour on that day will be a little challenging. There are visas and other complications. In that case, if a compromise is needed, we will do it. After learning about our issues, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board said that they would talk to their Covid-19 task force and tell them how much they could relax. Hopefully, they will let us know soon,” he added.
