Three Ansar Al Islam members held in Rajshahi

Three members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam were arrested from Belpukur area in the city.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested them early Monday.

The arrestees were identified as Md Raju Ahmmed, 24, son of Md Abu Bakar Siddiq, Md Farhad Hossain, 30, son of Md Akhtar Ali and Md Jahangir Alam, 36, son of Akkas Ali, residents of Jamira village under Belpukur Thana.

RAB-5 Deputy Commander AM Major Ashraful Islam said that on information, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in Baneshwar bazar area under Belpukur police station and arrested Raju Ahmmed.

Later, being information provided by Raju, RAB arrested two more members of Ansar Al Islam from Jamira area under Belpukur police station at 3 am.

The law enforcers also recovered five jihadi books, three leaflets, four mobile phone sets, SIM cards, memory cards and two ID cards from the scene.
