Teknaf boat collision leaves 2 dead, 8 wound

Two women have died after a St.Martin-bound speedboat collided with a trawler and capsized in a Canal at Naf river at Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. One child remained missing and eight others were injured in the incident.

The incident took place at a canal near Kayukkhali Para in the upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Rashida Begum, wife of Abdul Gafur Prakash Baitta of St. Martin West Para and Meherun Nesha, wife of Abdul Jalil. 

The injured are- Noman, Mamun, Md. Amin, Jahanara Begum, Sohail, Mumtaz Begum, speedboat driver Kaiser. The missing child identified as Sumaiya, daughter of Ayesha of St. Martin West neighborhood.

Teknaf Sadar BOP BGB Ceckpost Subedar Abdur Razzak said the St.Martin-bound speedboat colled head-on with a fishing trawler at the estuary of the Naf river. The speedboat overturned and 10 people were injured. Two women died while being taken to the hospital while one child remains missing.

St. Martin UP Chairman Nur Ahmed said that baby Sumaiya was not found until the evening. An injured woman named Begum Bahar has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for better treatment. Both the bodies have been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
