Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has resigned from the parliament after winning the ruling party Awami League’s nomination for the mayoral post of the Dhaka Metropolitan South City Corporation election.

Tariq Shikder, media coordinator of Taposh told The DailyBangladesh on Sunday that the resignation letter had been submitted a few hours ago by Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, MP of Dhaka-10 constituency. Taposh himself submitted the resignation to the Speaker of the Parliament, Tariq confirmed also.

Sheikh Fazle Noor is a son of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's cousin, Jubo League Founder Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani. He has been representing in the parliaments for last three terms as the MP of Dhaka-10 constituency. His elder brother, Sheikh Fazle Shams, has been elected chairman of the Jubo League on November 23.

Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections will be held on January 30.
