Left-hand opener Tamim Iqbal became the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh in the ongoing first T20I against Pakistan at Lahore today.

The southpaw started the day on 1,961 runs, only six run behind of Shakib Al Hasan haul. In the sixth over, he smashed a Haris Rauf delivery through extra cover to go past Shakib’s score and become Bangladesh’s highest run-getter in T20Is. Tamim averages 23.80 with the bat in T20Is with a strike rate of 117.1. He has one T20I ton and six fifties to his name during a career spanning 13 years.

Tamim fell in the 11th over after scoring a 34-ball 39 following a steady 71-run opening partnership with Mohammad Naim.

Mahmudullah Riyad is third in the run getters’ list behind Tamim and Shakib with a haul of 1430 runs. Riyad is followed by Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman in the list.
