Bangladesh ODI team skipper and left-hand opener Tamim Iqbal has been working for the helpless since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. This time the southpaw has joined the UN for the same purpose. The country's best opener has been named the World Food Programme’s (WFP) National Goodwill Ambassador in Bangladesh.

Tamim Iqbal confirmed the matter on his official Facebook page on Monday afternoon. Posting a video, the Bangladesh ODI captain said, "Today I have been appointed as the National Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in Bangladesh."

“I am honoured to be named as National Goodwill Ambassador of WFP - the United Nations agency that fights hunger worldwide, including in my own country Bangladesh,” Tamim was quoted as saying in the release.

Earlier, Tamim Iqbal has helped many people in different parts of the country through the national team and his own initiatives. This time he will work for the disadvantaged through this special program of the United Nations.

Tamim added, 'The ongoing COVID-19 epidemic has made the lives of many people more critical. I will do my best to stand by these families on behalf of the WFP.

As the Goodwill Ambassador Tamim will work to raise awareness about WFP programmes in Bangladesh which cover 64 districts across the country through its school feeding, nutrition, livelihoods, and refugee operations in Cox’s Bazar.
