The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling onions in the open market through truck sales at a fair price to prevent the onion market from rising. The state-run commercial firm has fixed a price of Tk 45 per kg

TCB started selling at five locations in the capital from Tuesday morning.

Humayun Kabir, a spokesman of the corporation said, “The sale was initially started in five spots in the city. This activity will be increased gradually until the market is being normal.”

He said that onions are being sold at Tk 45 per kg. A buyer can buy a maximum of two kg onion every time.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce decided to sell onion at the open market in a meeting at the Secretariat last Sunday. In terms of this, TCB started selling onion from today.

Due to the rise of LC in onion imports from India, the price of onion in the country market suddenly increased. Onion price increased to Tk 75 from Tk 50 per day in a single day.

While the price of onion is rising in the Indian market, the price of indigenous onion becomes unstable due to the unlimited growth. In such a situation, the government started working to control the market by blaming dishonest syndicate.
