Following his IPL 2020 performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad, T Natarajan got his maiden call up in team India for the 2OI series against Australia. This time the pacer earned his maiden Test call-up against the same team for the last two matches of the series as Umesh Yadav limped off the field due to an injury.
India were already missing the services of seasoned fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma and Umesh’s injury added salt to the wounds. Only Jasprit Bumrah is the only first-choice seamer left for India in the squad with the likes of Mohammed Siraj making his debut in the Melbourne Test.
Umesh suffered a hamstring injury while bowling against Australia in the second innings in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The fast bowler left the field after bowling only 3.3 overs in this match.
It has been reported that Umesh has flown back to India due to a calf muscle tear and he will miss the rest of the series. It said that Team India has decided to add left-arm seamer Thangarasu Natarajan to the squad for the third Test in place of Umesh.
The Indian team management is likely to prefer Shardul Thakur over Natarajan in the third Test against Australia in place of injured Umesh.
The third Test begins in Sydney on January 7.
