Super Cyclone ‘Amphan’ 700 km near to Bangladesh

Super Cyclone Amphan is located 700 km away from Bangladesh, said Kawsar Parveen, Deputy Director, Meteorological Department of Bangladesh.

He said this after analyzing the data till 4 pm on Tuesday.

Kawsar Parveen said the area between Khulna and Chattogram could be hit at 10 am on Wednesday. Later in the afternoon to evening, the cyclone can cross the coast of Bangladesh. At this time, there may be tidal surges of more than 5 to 10 feet.

He said that during the cyclone Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Chattogram districts and their remote islands and chars may experience very heavy cyclonic storm of 140 to 160 km per hour with heavy to very heavy rainfall. Gusts of wind may blow over the area.

The coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and their adjoining islands and chars may be flooded with a low to medium tidal surge of 10 feet above normal.

Meanwhile, all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and the deep sea have been asked to go to a safe zone immediately and stay until further notice.

Currently, the maximum sustained wind speed within 90 km of the super cyclone center is 225 km per hour, which is increasing to 245 km in the form of gusty winds. The sea near the Super Cyclone Center is very turbulent.

In this situation, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to show danger signal number 7. The coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Lakshmipur, Chandpur and their outlying islands and chars will be under danger signal number 7.

Chttogram and Cox's Bazar seaports have been asked to hoist danger signal number 7. The coastal districts of Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar their outlying islands and chars will be under danger signal number 6.
