England’s Ben Stokes finally came into his business in Indian Premier League 2020 with hitting an unbeaten 107 off 60 balls as the Rajasthan Royals chased down defending champions Mumbai Indians' 195 for 5 with relative ease in the end in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
With the win Royals not only keep them in the race for the playoffs, they are now sixth on the points table with ten points from 12 games, but also have shattered Chennai Super Kings' hopes of reaching into the playoff.
This is the first time in the history of IPL that three time champions Chennai failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Stokes combined with Sanju Samson, who made 54 not out, to put on 152 runs for the third wicket as Royals achieved their target of 196 in 18.2 overs in Abu Dhabi.
“It’s sort of bittersweet to be honest. Bit taken aback by why it’s taken me so long to get into the tournament for the team,” said Stokes.
“To be honest the training I’ve had yesterday was the best I had throughout my time here, so I came into this with a bit of confidence. It was coming on nicely.”
Earlier, opting to bat first, Mumbai posted a cannibalistic score of 195 for 5 in 20 overs against Rajasthan with the help of Hardik Pandya's unbeaten 60 from 21 balls and Suryakumar Yadav's 40 off 26.
