President M Abdul Hamid said statistics play a very important role in national planning and socio-economic development. To transform the country from a developing to a developed country, it is necessary to ensure the application of accurate and timely statistics in every sector.
He said this in a message on Friday on the occasion of 'National Statistics Day' on Saturday (February 26).
The President said the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has been working tirelessly to provide the necessary data for the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of development plans as a national statistics agency. The 'Statistics Act, 2013' and national strategy papers in this regard have been prepared for the development of the national statistics system. This has opened a new horizon in the obligation to use BBS data as official statistics in all cases.
"I believe that the objective and timely action was taken by the BBS in the proper implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Vision 2021 and 2041, the Delta Plan 2100 and the Eighth Five Year Plan will further accelerate the overall development work of the government," he said.
President Abdul Hamid further said, "I hope that the observance of National Statistics Day will increase the application of statistics in all sectors of the country, which will help in accelerating the pace of economic development."
