St. Martin travel shut down indefinitely

Cox’s Bazar district and Teknaf upazila administration have announced a shut down of tourist transport to St. Martin’s Island, the only coral island of Bangladesh.
The administration announced on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the relevant sources, tourists are often caught in hostile weather while traveling to St. Martin’s Island by trawlers at the risk of their lives. Therefore, this decision has been taken considering the overall situation
Tareq Ahmed, station commander of the St. Martin Coast Guard, and Teknaf UNO Parvez Chowdhury said 10 ships used to transport tourists on two waterways have been shut down since March 31 this year.
He added that from now on there is no permission for tourist transport. If new permission is given, there will be no hindrance in the transport of tourists through shipping again.
Teknaf Municipality Kayukkhali Ghat lease toll collector and Teknaf-St. Martin waterway service trawler owners association ticket seller Md. Jobayer said tickets to St. Martin were not sold to any tourists “without the permission” of the local administration. As a result, no tourists were able to visit St. Martin on Tuesday.
