Sri Lanka to hold parliamentary election on August 5

Sri Lanka will hold parliamentary elections on Wednesday amid global coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, the election was postponed in two phases due to the deadly virus.
The Sri Lankan government has imposed a number of restrictions on voters. Voters must wear masks on Election Day. Everyone has to take a pen with them to vote on the ballot paper. Besides, the social distance must be maintained at the polling station.
It is learned that the votes of this election will be counted on Thursday. Through this election, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is hopeful of strengthening his power in the country’s fragile politics. If he wins this election, his brother Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and he will be able to amend the constitution like them.
