Spain becomes first EU nation to reach 1m COVID-19 cases

Spain has become the first European Union nation to record more than one million coronavirus cases. This information was revealed from the official statistics of the country on Wednesday.
The country on Wednesday reports 16,973 new infections and 156 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Spain is the sixth nation worldwide to report one million COVID-19 cases after the US, India, Brazil, Russia, and Argentina.
According to the international survey website Worldometer, the total number of infected people in Spain so far is 1,005,295. And 34,366 people have died so far.
Earlier, on January 31, the first coronavirus case was identified in Spain.
Spain was hit hard at the beginning of the epidemic. The country has taken much stricter measures, including banning children from going outside, to prevent the spread of the virus.
