South Asia`s largest Buddha statue at Rangamati

South Asia`s largest Buddha statue at Rangamati

We reached at Juraichhari before the sunset. When we got down from the launch we found such a beautiful place, If you do not see the immense beauty, one of the great things in your life will remain imperfect. The largest Buddha statue of the country is being built here. According to many, there is no greater 'lying' Buddha statue in South Asia.

Juraichhari is 57 km away from Rangamati Sadar. Mizoram, India, on the east, Barkal on the north, Bilachari on the south and Rangamati on the west. But the only communication channel here is the waterway as its a place of mountains and waterfalls. Smells and silence can be found in the remote mountains of Jurachhari.

When you kept your foot in the small market of the Upazila, you can see the numerous green hills. A little more attention will be seen in the meditation Gautam Buddha. The background of the sky still does not sit behind the head of Gautama Buddha lying in bed. The only vehicle to get there from Jurachhari Bazaar is a motorcycle. Good to say, motorcycles are the best mode of transportation in Jurachhari. You will also find an autorickshaw known as CNG; However, the numbers are very low and expensive too.

As much as I was going on a motorcycle, I found small houses of the indigenous people, Jhum cultivation on the hillside of the lake and watermelon fields. By half an hour you will able to reach Sadhannanand Mahasthbir. The statue of Gautama Buddha is being erected here. There is still a lot of work to do.

Bihar authorities said this is the first time such a meditative Buddhist statue is being built in the country. Even in South Asia, it is not known whether there is a statue of Gautama Buddha lying on it. The construction work started in 2016 and local people started the casting of the idol in their own labor in 2017. At that time, thousands of pilgrims from far and wide participated. The eyes and colors of Buddhism will be brought from Thailand soon.

The architects of the country's largest Buddha statue are Biswajit Barua, Potipada Dewan and Dayal Chandra Chakma. Tipati Shankar Chakma is the chief engineer while  Bhadanto Bimalananda Sthobir is the chief designer. It is known that the body color of the Statue will be of gold. Buddhism has a lot of importance in meditating. Bihar authorities believe the new Buddhist image will also play a role in tourism.
