Soumya Sarkar may go to jail for using deerskin in his wedding

Bangladesh National Team’s top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar may face three years of imprisonment for using deerskin in his wedding which took place on February 26.

According to section 6 of the Wildlife Conservation Act, it is a punishable offense to keep the skin of any animal or wildlife without a license. In this case, the guilty person can be sentenced to a minimum of three years. So, if Soumya and his father found guilty over the allegation, they may end up in jail for three years.

Meanwhile, police arrested two people for stealing smartphones during the wedding of Sarkar and his long-time girlfriend, Priyonti Debnath Puja. A fight even had broken out at the event, according to the media reports.

Soumya and her father’s conviction depend on litigation. If someone lodges a case in the court — then Soumya and his father will face the courtroom.

However, Soumya’s father Kishori Mohan Sarker mentioned in a recent interview that “keeping deerskin is their family tradition.” Their ancestors have been using this for a long time, he also said adding that “they did nothing but just followed the traditions and blessed his son.”

The Tigers’ opener was in good form against Zimbabwe and everything going excellent for him when he got tied to his long-time girlfriend, however, these controversies will have a negative impact on Soumya’s concentration if he found guilty which can end his 2020 T20 World Cup mission.
