Soumitra’s health deteriorates further; kidneys not functioning

The health condition of popular veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee has deteriorated further on Monday night as his kidneys started malfunctioning, doctors said.
The veteran actor, who had tested positive for Covid-19 on October 6 and has been hospitalized at a Kolkata hospital since then, had to be put on the ventilator on Monday afternoon.
According to Belle Vue Clinic sources, variations between sodium and potassium level in Soumitra Chatterjee’s occurred.
Besides, his nerves are not working properly. The nerves in the brain have become almost paralyzed. However, the actor’s heart, kidneys and lungs were functioning normally, the hospital said.
It was reported on Tuesday morning that his kidneys were not working properly anymore.
According to hospital sources, Soumitra’s physical condition has deteriorated since October 24. COVID encephalopathy infection has increased in his body.
The advice of neurologists at home and abroad is being taken. Soumitra Chatterjee also is known as ‘Apu’ on the silver screen was already suffering from the complex problem of encephalopathy. Although it has been controlled for the last few days, recently it has been infected again.
The doctors said that Soumitra’s consciousness, as well as platelet count, has decreased a bit. Though Immunoglobulin and steroids improved the situation for a while, however, it did not last long.
