Veteran Tollywood actor Soumitra Chatterjee has tested negative for Covid-19 and his condition has improved, said doctors treating him at a private hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Citing the doctors, Soumitra Chatterjee, 85, has had no fever since Tuesday evening but is still in an “acute confusional state”.
However, he is responding to verbal commands and is opening his eyes at times, said the doctors.
A senior doctor at the hospital said, “The actor’s involuntary movements and the jittery condition is, however, persisting. His kidney, liver function, ammonia level in the blood, the infective mucus are either normalizing or are almost normal. The cardiac function, blood pressure, respiration, and urine output are also improving.” - reports Daily Star.
“We have given him a little oxygen support and at times intermittent BiPAB support as precautionary measures and he is doing fine with that too,” the doctor added.
Meanwhile, Poulomi Bose, daughter of Soumitra Chatterjee, on Wednesday requested to all netizens not to spread false rumors about the health of her father.
“Amidst this time of huge anxiety over the health of my Covid-afflicted father, Soumitra Chatterjee, we are extremely upset, sad and heartbroken to find unauthorised pictures of him from the ICU and his medical bulletin being shared widely on social media,” Bose wrote in a Facebook post.
“Please give him the privacy and respect that he so richly deserves. Kindly do not share such images/information and do not heed or indulge in rumor-mongering. This is the urgent appeal of my family. Your prayers and good wishes are always very welcome. Thank you,” she added.
Earlier on October 6, Soumitra Chatterjee had tested positive for coronavirus and was shifted to Bellevue Nursing Home in Kolkata for treatment.
The veteran actor is best known for his collaboration with Oscar-winner Satyajit Ray and the Feluda series.
