A volcano has been erupted from ‘La Soufrière’, a volcanic mountain of the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent. The island is now covered with smoke and ash.
The British media outlet BBC reported the information on Saturday.
The volcanic eruption of La Soufrière was first identified on Thursday, the report said.
The island’s prime minister Ralph Gonsalves has called for the immediate evacuation of more than 16,000 residents of the so-called Red Zone.
No one was killed or injured in the eruption.
This is the first volcanic eruption in Saint Vincent since 1979. Long before that, in 1902, a volcanic eruption killed more than a thousand people on the island.
