The sole thermal scanner for coronavirus testing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has been broken due to additional passenger pressure.

An official, reluctant to disclose name, said the body temperature of the passengers was checked with one scanner so far. “As a result, passengers had to wait for a long time.”

“Due to passengers’ impatience, the only scanner fell on and collapsed on Monday night. Since then it has been in a state of inutile.”

He also said another scanner at the VIP terminal is currently operational even though the scanner for the ordinary passengers was broken. “On the other hand, manual procedures are being used to check the body temperature of ordinary passengers.”

However, the official said the problem would be resolved soon by increasing the manpower at the airport.

It is learned that there are three thermal scanners at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Of these — one is at the VIP terminal and the other two are at the normal arrival.

The thermal scanner at the VIP terminal and one of the two thermal scanners at the normal arrival were wasted. But the other one was somehow working, now that has been broken also.
