Smell of mustard in air

Satkhira villages have been filled with the yellow colored mustard field. The beauty and smell of mustard flowers are reflected the village ground.

According to the agricultural department sources, mustard cultivation has cultivated more than other years. And, it will increase further in the near future. Besides, the farmers are expecting good yields due to favorable weather conditions.

Mustard cultivator of Kalaroa upazila Azizul Islam said, “More farming has done that last time. Other years, various types of insect attack were seen in the mustard. As a result, they have been disrupted from flower to maturing mustard seeds. But this year, mustard crop did not have any insect attack.”

Abul Hossain of Debhata upazila said, “Now the yield of mustard is good. So, many farmers will benefit financially.”

Arvind Biswas, deputy secretary of the District Agricultural Extension (DAE) department, said that in the seven upazilas of the district, there is mustard cultivation more than the other season in the current season. “Regular consultation is being given to prevent the attack on mustard flowers. Hope that mustard cultivation will be able to meet the demand of the population.”

He said, “Last year, mustard seeds were cultivated on 9,400 hectares of land in the district. This year, due to the delay in the harvesting of the Aman paddy, the mustard has been cultivated in 8,280 hectares of land this year.”
