BTRC chairman Zahurul Haque has urged Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Mayor Atiqul Islam, to take necessary steps to take down the roadside hanging cables in the capital. The mayor also responded to the call and promised to implement it.
The BTRC chairman made the call at the inaugural function of 'Smart Lamp Pole' for the first time in the country at the initiative of 'EDOTCO Bangladesh' in collaboration with Dhaka North City Corporation with the aim of building a smart city.
Apart from the Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, academician and writer Professor. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Ricky Stein, Country Managing Director, EDOTCO Bangladesh, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Managing Director (MD) of Robi have participated in the virtual event.
ISP traders provide internet service from house to house, adding that, the BTRC chairman said, the cables are scattered all over Dhaka city. No digitalized here. Looks very dirty, causes accidents. A big problem is that different authorities cut those off for different reasons. He asked the mayor to take initiative on how to take these cables underground.
Addressing the mayor, the BTRC boss said, “You make a line in the underground. The ISPs will be able to pay for it on a monthly basis. If this is done, it will be 25 percent of digitalization. If cables are not seen outside in Dhaka, then we will move closer to Europe.”
“We sat down with three companies,” Mayor Atikul said in response to the call, “They want to do business. Now I will implement it with a master plan.”
Professor Zafar Iqbal said the hanging cables had been taken under the ground in Sylhet. Then why can't we do it in Dhaka city? This will greatly enhance the beauty of the capital.
