Sinha murder: RAB seeks 10-days remand for four accused

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has appealed for 10-days remand for four accused in the murder case of Major (Retired) Sinha Md. Rashed Khan, who was shot dead by police in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
Sinha Md. Rashed Khan’s sister filed the murder case.
The hearing will be held on August 12.
Meanwhile, the investigating RAB officer has completed the interrogation of the 4 accused at the jail gate for two days.
On Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah, head of the media wing of the RAB, said that the four accused who were interrogated gave important information. In this context, a fresh 10-days remand has sought to the court.
The court’s police inspector Pradeep Kumar Das said the remand petition had been submitted. The hearing will be held on August 12.
Major (Retired) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police during a search at Teknaf Baharchara checkpost on July 31 night. The police filed three separate cases under the Murder and Narcotics Act with Teknaf Police Station and Ramu Police Station under the Narcotics Act. Police sent Shahedul Islam Sifat and Shipra Rani Debnath, who were with the deceased Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan at the time, to jail by the shown arrest in the case.
Besides, Sharmin Shahria Ferdous, Sinha’s sister, filed a murder case on August 5 against nine people, including Inspector Liaquat and OC Pradeep Kumar Das, with the Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court.
On August 6, seven accused, including ousted OC Pradeep and Liaquat, surrendered before the Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Court.
During the hearing of the case, RAB appealed a 10-days remand for each accused. The court granted 7-days remand to Inspector Liaquat, OC Pradeep, and SI Nanda Dulal Rakshit. The other four were ordered to be interrogated in jail gate for two days. The court issued arrest warrants against the remaining two accused.

Shipra Rani Debnath, a student of the Film and Media Department at Stamford University and an associate of Sinha who was sent to jail in a case filed by Ramu police station, was released on bail on Sunday. On the other hand, Shahedul Islam Sifat, who also was with Major Sinha Md. Rashed Khan, was secured bail in two cases filed by Teknaf police station.
Earlier, Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Judge Tamanna Farah granted bail at around 11:00 am.
At the same time, the court has handed over the investigation of Sifat’s case to RAB on the petition of two defendants.
