Shuvagata Hom struck a stormy 16-ball fifty to become the record-holder for the fastest fifty in T20 cricket among Bangladeshi batsmen. His innings helped Shinepukur Cricket Club post a massive 192/4 before they restricted Mohammedan Sporting Club to 170/9 to win by 22 runs in the Dhaka Premier League T20 match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

When Hom came in, his side were 109 for four but he went berserk from the 17th over onwards and overtook Mominul Haque---who was the previous record-holder for Bangladesh's fastest T20 fifty off 19 deliveries. Mohammad Ashraful has the record for fastest T20I fifty among Bangladesh batsman, off 20 balls against West Indies in the 2007 World Twenty20.

Yesterday at Fatullah, Shuvagata raged a 10-ball 32 but this time he went a few steps better, hitting four fours and six sixes during his unbeaten 18-ball 58. The last three overs produced 62 runs with batting partner Towhid Hridoy just a spectator in the death overs even after a crafty 41-ball 66.

Mohammedan kept losing wickets at regular intervals after a breezy start. Irfan Shukkur's 29-ball 52 saw them fight back as they reached 170 for 9 after 20 overs.

Following the win, Shuvagata said: 'I was not thinking about the record since it's not something that you can plan. I wanted to make the score big. Only four or five overs were left and I tried to play big shots and they just happened for me.'
