The High Court on Tuesday has ordered the closure of all illegal brick kilns in Dhaka and its surrounding five districts within 15 days and directs to operate mobile courts to stop the illegal brick kilns in these districts.

Excluding Dhaka, the four other districts are — Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur and Manikganj.

A High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader passed the order.

At the same time, the court directed the formation of a high-level committee headed by the environment secretary to create a guideline on what causes pollution in Dhaka and what steps need to be taken to prevent pollution. The committee has been asked to submit the report within 30 days.

Advocate Manzil Morshed was heard for the writ in the court where Deputy Attorney General Barrister Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar was present for the state.

The court has set January 7 for the next hearing in the case.
