Shimulia ferry ghat sees massive crowds of homebound people

The rush of homebound people and transports have seen at Shimulia-Bangla Bazar route ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. People are heading towards village home ignoring the government instructions to curb coronavirus infection. As launch and speed boat are closed and both people and vehicles were seen in large numbers at the ferry ghat.

The pressure on the ferry has increased since morning due to passenger and private vehicles. Everyone is huddled and trying to get on the ferry. As a result, BIWTC was struggling to cross the freight vehicles. The pressure is not going to be reduced even with 13 ferries.

Huge pressure has seen at Shimulia ferry ghat since Friday morning

It has been learned that homebound people's pressure has started to increase at Shimulia Ghat from Friday morning. Cars could not be picked up on ferry due to the huge crowd.

Hilal Uddin, in charge of Mawa Traffic Police, said only passengers were allowed to cross from Friday morning till 10:30 am. Later, when the pressure is lessened, the vehicles are allowed to cross. At around 1 pm, more than 700 vehicles formed long queues at the terminal. In the afternoon, more than three hundred private and cargo vehicles were added to the serial.

13 ferries are used for smooth crossing of passengers

BIWTC Shimulia Ghat Manager (Commerce) Safayet Ahmed said the ferry was under pressure as launches and speedboats were closed. Passengers and vehicles have to get up to speed to cope with the pressure together. Attempts are being made to ensure the smooth crossing of passengers and vehicles with 13 ferries.
