Shezan juice factory fire: Handing over of bodies begins

The process of handing over the bodies of the workers, who were killed in the fire at the Shezan Juice Factory of Hashem Food and Beverage - a member of Sajeeb Group in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj, has begun.
The authorities started the handing over process of the bodies kept in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the family on Wednesday morning.
The bodies were identified after DNA sample testing with relatives. Deputy Commissioner Mostain Billah confirmed the matter on Tuesday night.
The burnt bodies had been kept in the cold storage of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital. No one's face could be identified as almost all the bodies were burnt in the fire. Later, DNA samples were collected from the family members of the victims for identification.
Narayanganj's Criminal Investigation Department Special Superintendent of Police Md Delwar Hossain said the identities of 45 people have been confirmed through DNA tests. The identified bodies will be handed over to their families gradually from Wednesday noon.
He said the bodies of 24 bodies kept in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital would be handed over on the first day. The bodies kept in the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital will be handed over in the next two days. The police official also said that identities of the other three victims are yet to be confirmed.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mostain Billah said that Tk 50,000 in cash will be provided to each of the families for their burial and funeral.
