Sheikh Hasina govt completes 2 years of its 3rd term in a row

The Awami League government has completed two years of its third consecutive term in office on Thursday (January 7) under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On that day in 2019, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina was sworn in as Bangladesh's prime minister for a record fourth term after her party's landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary elections.  

The current government has made unprecedented development and progress in the country in the last 12 years and Bangladesh has become a role model of development at the international arena. The country has set a unique example by surpassing all the South Asian countries in maximum socio-economic indexes. The government has also strengthened democracy and good governance.  

In 2006-07 fiscal year, the country’s national budget was of Tk 54,800 crore while now the budget stands at Tk 5,68,000 crore. The annual development programme (ADP) was around Tk 19,000 crore in 2006 while the ADP size now stands Tk 2,05,000 crore. The foreign exchange reserves were $5 billion during that period while it now crossed $43 billion.  

Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the government has turned the country into a Digital Bangladesh while the trial of war criminals was also completed as per the 2008 election manifesto. 

In the last 12 years, the great achievement of the current government is the UNESCO's recognition of the historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the world’s documentary heritage.  

For humanitarian efforts for over 10 lakh Rohingya people who were forcibly displaced to Bangladesh following persecution in Myanmar, Sheikh Hasina and her government have been praised worldwide. She earned the title of the Mother of Humanity and Star of the East. 

Bangladesh also made remarkable instances in facing the coronavirus pandemic and different natural disasters. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s wisdom, firmness, honesty and courage have attained global accolades.  

Meanwhile, the long-awaited Padma Multipurpose Bridge became fully visible following the installation of its last span late last year with its own resources, which was a major success of the AL-led government.  

Awami League and grand alliance under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina achieved a landslide victory on December 29, 2008, national election. On January 6, 2009, grand alliance led by Awami League formed government. After winning January 5, 2014, general elections, Sheikh Hasina became prime minister for third times when Awami League formed government. 

In the general election on December 30 in 2018, the people of Bangladesh again gave their mandate to the Awami League to form
government for a record third straight term. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina became the prime minister for the fourth time and third in a row.
