Cabinet okays ‘Sheikh Hasina Medical University’

The Cabinet on Monday has approved the draft of ‘Sheikh Hasina Medical University Act, Khulna 2020’ in principle, resulting in another medical university is going to be built in the country,
The draft approved in the Cabinet meeting, presided over Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through video conferencing from Ganobhaban, held at the secretariat in the capital.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul briefing reporters, saying “the government has taken timely steps to improve the quality of higher education, research, service and expansion of facilities in the medical field of the country. In paragraph 3.19 of the 2018 election manifesto, the government’s goal and plan have been adopted to establish medical universities in all the divisional cities. The Prime Minister has agreed to set up a ‘Sheikh Hasina Medical University’ in Khulna district as part of the ongoing activities of the government.”
The main objective of establishing the proposed university is to preserve and improve the quality of education in medical colleges by conducting post-graduate medical education, research and undergraduate education activities with the aim of producing highly educated specialists and researchers in medical education, he added.
Khandaker Anwarul Islam said the proposed draft law has been formulated in line with the laws enacted earlier for Rajshahi, Chattogram and Sylhet Medical Universities. “There is a total of 55 sections in the proposed law. For this, provisions have been made for making rules, regulations and statutes,” he also said.
