Bangladesh National Team’s star player Shakib Al Hasan is in quarantine after returning from India to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After returning to the country, his first COVID test result came negative. Another cricketer Mustafizur Rahman, who returned from India with Shakib, is waiting to get the result.
Confirming the matter to the media, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) doctor Manjurul Hossain said, “Shakib’s first test result came negative, Mustafiz’s result will be available tomorrow.”
This year’s IPL event was postponed on May 4 due to COVID attacks among the teams. Shakib, Mustafiz and his wife returned to the country on Thursday on a special flight. After returning to the country, they were taken to the hotel from the airport for a 14-day official quarantine.
Mustafiz is in quarantine with his wife at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital. Besides, Shakib stayed in a hotel in Gulshan. In a few days, these two cricketers will be tested for another phase of Covid-19.
If both of them have to be quarantined for 14 days, then Shakib and Mustafiz will be released on May 20. Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home from May 23.
Shakib has played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the current edition of IPL. Mustafiz was in Rajasthan Royals. Shakib was dropped from the XI after playing three matches but the other was a regular member of the team.
