Shakib Al Hasan is serving a year ICC ban for hiding a bookie offer which will expire on October 29. Only then will he be able to return to cricket. However, before returning to cricket, Shakib's name was put on the auction of the franchise-based T20 tournament.

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held this year after a long hiatus. Tiger all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to go under the hammer along with Chris Gayle, Daren Sammy, Darren Bravo, Shahid Afridi, Shakib Al Hasan, Ravi Bopara, Colin Munro, Vernon Philander, and Munaf Patel.

Earlier in 2012, the Sri Lankan franchise-based domestic T20 tournament was held under another name. The auction of this year's new name will be held on October 1. The organizing committee has already listed 150 international cricketers.

Each franchise can buy up to six international players. That means the LPL is likely to 30 international cricketers and 65 local cricketers, with each squad having 19 members.

As per the current schedule, the tournament will be held from November 14 and December 6. It will feature 23 matches, to be played in Dambulla, Pallekele and Hambantota, while the launch will take place in Hambantota.
