Shakib Al Hasan has decided to skip the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in April to make himself available in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Akram Khan, Cricket Operations Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the matter on Thursday.
The star all-rounder wrote a letter to the BCB asking for the leave and the board has granted the leave.
Regarding the leave, Akram Khan said, “Shakib wants to play T20s at the moment. He is not interested in playing Tests. He had given a letter to skip the Test series against Sri Lanka as he wanted to play in the IPL.”
We don’t want to force anyone who is not interested to play Tests, as a result, the board has decided to grant him the leave, he added.
Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 3.2 crores in the auction on Thursday.
In between 2011 and 2017, Shakib played for the Knight Riders and was an important member of the champion sides of 2012 and 2014.
