Shakib Al Hasan lost his temper during a DPL match against Abahani
Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for three matches in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League following his angry behaviour towards the umpires during a match on Friday, June 11. The al-rounder also fined Tk 5 lakh.
It was almost certain that Shakib would be punished for misconduct with the umpire. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the CCDM announced the punishment against Shakib a day after the incident on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, CCDM chairman Kazi Enam Ahmed said Shakib had been banned for three matches in domestic cricket and fined Tk 500,000 for violating Level 3 of the Code of Conduct.
Earlier, it was said that Shakib Al Hasan could be banned for four matches following his misconduct with the on filed umpires.
Mohammedan faced arch-rivals Abahani in a high-voltage match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday. Shakib, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, against arch-rival Abahani Limited got into trouble with umpires on two occasions.
The first incident took place when his LBW appeal against Mushfiqur Rahim was turned down by umpire Imran Parvez and he furiously kicked the stumps and engaged in a heated conversation with the umpire. In the following over he lost his cool again as he uprooted the stump out of despair and even tried to fix the stump in the opposite direction after umpires called to bring the covers on due to rain.
Shakib also gestured indecently pointing towards Abahani's dressing room while returning back from the field after the game being stopped due to rain. Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud, who is also a director of BCB, was seen coming furiously towards him at that point but it did not turn ugly as batsman Shamsur Rahman came in between to cool things down.
Later, Shakib went to Abahani's dressing room and resolved the matter before returning to the field when the game resumed.
Shakib also apologized to the fans through a statement on his official Facebook page after the match.
