Shakib apologizes after losing temper

Bangladesh ace all-rounder and Mohammedan skipper Shakib Al Hasan was furious when umpire did not give Abahani Limited's skipper Mushfiqur Rahim out leg-before the previous over and proceeded to kick the stumps at the bowler's end while fuming at the umpire.

Shakib took social media Facebook to say sorry to fans and followers. He wrote, "Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens unfortunately. I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won't be repeating this again in the future. Thanks and love you all ❤️ SAH"

The match between Abahani and Mohammedan was not as high-voltage as it used to be during domestic cricket's golden years but Shakib's reaction certainly brought some electricity as Mohammedan pushed Abahani towards the ropes with early wickets after posting 145 for six.

Shuvagata struck thrice as Abahani lost three wickets for nine runs in 2.3 overs. Mushfiqur and Najumul Hossain Shanto were at the crease and in his very first over, Shakib lost his cool. Mushfiqur hit a four and six off Shakib to give Abahani some letup but the last ball of the over from Shakib pitched on off stump and then went with the arm before wrapping the batsman's pads. Shakib went up in appeal but was unable to restrain himself as he went at the umpire and kicked at the stumps.

The situation escalated further when the umpires stopped the play for rain after 5.5 overs, which made Shakib fume with anger and he rushed to the pitch uprooted the stumps and threw it away.

While going back to the dressing room, he also made an indecent gesture towards Abahani players which enraged Khaled Mahmud, the coach of Abahani, who wanted to rush towards the Mohammedan cricketers but Shamsur Rahman stopped him.

Mohammedan batted first and scored 145-6 in 20 overs. Abahani was 31-3 in 5.5 overs when rain interrupted the play.

Mohammedan won the match by 31 runs (D/L method) when the match resumed and reduced to 9 over with 76 runs target.
