The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold the municipal elections in four steps across the country. The second round of the municipal election will take place in mid-January next year.

After the meeting of the 73rd Commission on Sunday evening, senior EC secretary Md. Alamgir came up with this information.

He said in the first phase, elections for 25 municipalities will be held on December 28. The commission has decided to hold the elections to rest 169 municipalities in three more steps.

The EC's senior secretary said the second round of voting would hold in mid-January, the third round at the end of January, and the fourth and final round in mid-February.

He said it would not be possible to take votes in all the centers through EVM due to trained people and lack of EVM capability. For this purpose, about 30 municipalities will be selected for holding polls through EVM at each stage while the rest will be by ballot.

Md. Alamgir added that polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm as it is a winter day.

The EC secretary hoped that the schedule for the second phase of municipal elections would be finalized this week.
