Schools, colleges to reopen on March 30: Education Minister

Schools and colleges are set to reopen on March 30 across the country after remain closed for one year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Cabinet Room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Saturday (February 27) evening.

Initially, Classes will be held all six days a week for Class-V, Class-X, and Class-XII while classes will be held only a day a week for other classes.

However, pre-primary classes are not starting now.

The meeting was chaired by Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni. Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain also took part in it. 

After identifying the first coronavirus patient in the country on March 8 last year, the government declared all educational institutions closed from March 17. After that, the ongoing leave of the educational institution was increased till February 28 tomorrow in several phases.

Considering the overall situation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had instructed the concerned people in the cabinet meeting on February 22 to review the environment for opening educational institutions.
