Schoolboy killed for Tk 80 lakh ransom

Abductors killed a schoolboy named Tanvir Ahmed in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj as his family allegedly failed to pay the kidnappers Tk 80 lakh in ransom.

Police have arrested three people over the incident. Following their confessional statement police recovered the body of the schoolboy around 2 pm on Tuesday. 

The deceased identified as Son of Faruk Miah of West Nasratpur village of Nurpur UP of Tanvir upazila. He was a class-X student of the local Haji Afraz Ali High School.

Shayestaganj Police Station OC Ajay Chandra Dev said the schoolboy Tanvir was abducted on January 24 at around 8pm by Jahed Mia, son of Jalil Mia, Ujjwal Mia, son of Syed Ali and Shant Mia, son of Malai Mia. Later, they demanded a ransom of Tk 80 lakh for Tanvir's release by calling his father's mobile phone. 

At one stage, Tanvir's father informed the Shayestaganj police about the matter and the police started investigating the matter. Police arrested Jahed and Shant on Sunday night following Tanvir's father's allegation. At one stage of interrogation, they confessed to being involved in the incident and revealed that Ujjwal was the mastermind of the abduction. Police arrested Ujjwal on Tuesday morning.

The OC further said that during the preliminary interrogation, the kidnappers confessed to killing Tanvir by hanging him after stabbing him in the chest. After not getting the ransom money, they killed him and buried his body in a pond. Police are investigating whether there is any other reason behind this incident.
