Saudi suspends entry for Umrah over coronavirus

Saudi Arabia on Thursday temporarily suspended entry for individuals seeking to perform Umrah pilgrimage or visiting the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah over coronavirus fears. 

The Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided the information in a statement on Thursday. 

According to the statement, the government is suspending entry to the Kingdom for the purpose of Umrah and visiting the Prophet’s Mosque temporarily, as well as tourists travelling from countries where the coronavirus poses a risk as determined by the country’s health authorities. 

These measures come at a time when has been a sharp increase in the number of cases reported in parts of Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The number of people infected with coronavirus in Italy has risen to 400. The number of people infected with coronavirus in Italy has risen to 400. The European country banned all public gatherings and also suspended all types of academic institutes. 

Iran has emerged as a major hotspot in the Middle East, where 19 people have succumbed to the disease - officially known as COVID-19. The number of death from coronavirus is the highest outside China.

Globally, at least 80,000 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus while 2,801 died.
