In a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the charge of acquiring illegal wealth, the court granted a 6-day remand for Ismail Chowdhury Samrat, the ousted president of Juba League South. Earlier, he was taken on remand for several times in other cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Quaish granted the remand after hearing on Sunday. In the morning, Samrat was produced in the court from the jail. The ACC filed a 7-day remand against him for a fair investigation into the allegations of illegal wealth acquisition.
On the other hand, his lawyer applied for bail seeking cancellation of the remand. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application and granted a six-day remand.
Earlier on November 12, Deputy Commissioner of the ACC Jahangir Alam filed a case against Samrat at the District Office, Dhaka-1, on the charge of obtaining illegal assets of Tk. 2 crores, 94 lakhs, 80 thousand and 87.
