SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, the main accused in the Raihan murder case at the Bandar Bazar police outpost in Sylhet
SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, the main accused in the Raihan Uddin Ahmed murder case at the Bandar Bazar police outpost in Sylhet, has been arrested from the Kanaighat border in Sylhet on Monday afternoon, 28 days after the murder.
It is to be noted that Raihan, son of Rafiqul Islam of Neharipara in Akhalia, died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on October 11 after being tortured by police at Bandarbazar police outpost.
On the night of October 12, Raihan’s wife filed a case with Kotwali police station.
SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan of Bandar Bazar police outpost, the main accused in the case, has been absconding since the incident.
Four policemen, including SI Akbar, have been suspended and three others have been withdrawn in connection with Raihan’s death. Later, SI Hasan of the outpost was sacked for helping Akbar escape.
The case is currently being investigated by the PBI. The PBI team inspected the Bandar Bazar police outpost, the city’s cast house and the victim’s house. Raihan’s body was then exhumed and re-autopsied.
According to the second autopsy report, Raihan had 111 marks of injuries on his body.
Meanwhile, the PBI has shown arrested two ousted constables in connection with the murder of Raihan. They were then remanded for questioning. ASI Asheque Elahi, who took Raihan to the outpost, and Sayeed, who was accused of kidnapping, were also arrested.
