SAU to observe Bangabandhu’s Birth Centenary

South Asian University (SAU) decided to observe the Birth Centenary of the Father of the nation, Bangabandhu sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

This decision has been approved in the meeting of the financial expert committee of the Indian university in New Delhi on Jun 14.

It is learnt, Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) member Professor Dr. M. Shah Nawaz Ali presented the proposal to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the meeting. The participating members welcomed this proposal and unanimously approved it. The university's chairperson said. In the chairmanship of University’s chair person, Kabita Shrama, 7 SAARC countries (except Bhutan) representatives were present in the meeting.

UGC member professor Dr. M. Shah Nawaz Ali confirmed the matter, saying that, he talked about the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation in the second meeting of the Financial Expert Committee. The proposal also mentioned that, various activities including the seminar, workshops and cultural programs will be organized on the occasion. Bangladesh government will bear all the cost he also said mentioned.

Pakistan initially opposed this proposal but it was later approved unanimously, he added.

Noted that, South Asian University consists of 8 countries in the SAARC. Established in 2005, the International University started its academic program in 2010.
