India post 300 for 6 with the help of Rohit Sharma’s 161 and Ajinkya Rahane’s 67 against England at the end of the first day of the second Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

India, who trail the four-Test series 1-0, ended the day on 300 for 6 with Rishabh Pant on 33 and Axar Patel on 13.

The 162-run partnership between Rohit and Rahane guide India to a mammoth total after losing few early wickets. But Jack Leach removes Rohit in the 73rd over after scoring a dominating 161 with the help of 18 fours and 2 sixes.

In the 76th over, Moeen Ali bowled Rahane which gives a late relief for England.

Rohit Sharma looks very comfortable with the bat from the very beginning of the innings and he made a brilliant 150. Earlier, he completed his hundred in the second session on the day. Ajinkya Rahane also accompanied him very beautifully after scoring his fifty.

Earlier, Indian captain, Virat Kohli decided to bat first after winning the toss in Chennai. But the start was not very good for India as opener Shubman Gill went to the pavilion without scoring and Cheteshwar Pujara scored only 21 runs. Meanwhile, Kohli also scored a duck as he was bowled by Moeen Ali.

For England, Moeen Ali, and Jack Leach picked up two wickets for each.

Brief scores: India 3006 (Rohit Sharma 161, Ajinkya Rahane 67; Jack Leach 2-78, Moeen Ali 2-112)
