Rohingyas want to return their country

A 40-member Rohingya delegation from Ukhia and Teknaf visited Bhashan Char in Noakhali to observe if it was suitable for habitation. Although the delegates are happy with infrastructure of Bhasan Char they want to return to their homeland.

Recently, a group of 40 Rohingyas, including two women, went to Bhasan Char in Noakhali under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army and Navy. They visited food warehouses, shelters, mosques, health centers, schools, playgrounds, and graveyards. They were fascinated by all this.

After returning from Bhasan Char, they told other Rohingyas about its fascination. But now the tune has changed and they are saying something else. However, most of the ordinary Rohingyas are not in favor of going there. They say there is no chance to force but anyone can go to Bhasan Char voluntarily if they want.

Meanwhile, the conscious citizens demanded to send the Rohingyas to Bhasan Char by any means till the repatriation.

Abu Morshed Chowdhury, president of Cox's Bazar Civil Society, said the repatriation process was taking a long time, so civil society applauded the government's decision to relocate the Rohingya to Bhasan Char.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shamsuddauja said he hoped many Rohingya would agree to go to Bhasan Char. They will tell their group everything they observe.

The government has implemented a shelter project in Bhasan Char at a cost of Tk 2,312 crore from its own funds to relocate at least one lakh Rohingyas.
