A Rohingya drug peddler was killed in a gunfight with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Aiyas, son of Md Jamal Hossain of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.

On information that a huge number of drugs were entering in Jadimura Shekolghera area adjacent to the Naf River from Myanmar, a team of BGB cordoned off the area, said BGB-2 Battalion Captain Lt Cornel Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan.

When the BGB troops challenged the drug dealers, they opened fire targeting the border security guards, forcing them to fire, triggering a gunfight. Three BGB members were injured in the incident.
