A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with DB police on Jashore-Chougaccha road at Dogachia Bazar in Jashore Sadar Upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Selim, 40, son of Abdul Kader of Sadar Upazila. He was wanted in a dozen cases including that of robbery and drug.

Tipped off that two groups of robbers were exchanging bullets among them, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30 am, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB police.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robber opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self-defense.

At one stage, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Selim and took it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

One shutter gun, 5 bullets, three shells of bullets and some sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
