‘Robber’ killed in Cumilla gunfight

A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with police on Muradnagar-Elliotganj road at Susandha area of Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Al Amin, 35, son of Siraj Miah, a resident of Saliakandi village of the upazila.

Police claimed that Al Amin was a member of the inter-district robbery group, also an accused in nine cases filed with the police station.

AKM Manjur Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Muradnagar Police Station, said acting on information that a gang of robbers taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of detectives along with the police conducted a special drive around 1.30 am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting the policemen to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

During the gunfight, Al Amin received bullet. After the gunfight, the injured was taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered a pipe gun, two round of bullet, four sharp weapons and five masks.
